Overview

Shifts Available:1st shift start 7am & 2nd shift start 3pm

Duration: 2-3 month assignment

The main missions of the role are to assist with environmental compliance activities, including but not limited to:

  • Organizing and participating in emissions monitoring activities, compiling emissions inventories, reviewing and reporting emissions data
  • Assist in preparing and submitting permit applications, certifications and other required compliance reports
  • Preparation and strategy of general training
  • Coordinating responses to regulatory agency requests and enforcement actions with Corporate EHS
  • Administer the ISO 14001 process and enhance the environmental management system to drive environmental stewardship initiatives through implementation of recycling and pollution prevention projects
  • Ensure environmental usage data is accurately collected and tracked (via matrix/graphs) on required basis (i.e. monthly)
  • Ensure a Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are on file for each chemical in-house and update MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) files and chemical inventory log as needed

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Risk Assessments for all equipment / tasks, includes identification of the risk to human health or life, the likelihood of occurrence, current control measures in place, and additional control measures needed
    • PPE - Personal Protective Equipment
  • Conduct periodic comprehensive HSE audits at company locations
  • Develop and / or revise HSE Start Up work instructions
  • Conduct plant audit on each work station to confirm an HSE work instruction exists and is up to date
  • Ensure all work stations have HSE start-up instructions plant wide through plant document control system
  • Observe station to station plant wide to ensure operators have the correct level of protection for the task they are performing; ie: gloves, safety glasses, proper attire, etc.
  • Assist in investigation of injuries and accurately report where necessary including OSHA , MIOSHA, and Worker’s Compensation.
  • Develop revised Lockout Tagout Placards
  • Working in conjunction with maintenance personnel to identify all lockout points and the proper method of lockout to be used for all equipment
  • Document in work instruction format and process through document control system lockout tagout placard for each piece of equipment
  • Development of lockout tags for specific hazards for machine locations in connection to the lockout tagout placard
  • Assist Senior Health, Safety, and Environment Manager in additional needs
  • Assist with any additional tasks as assigned by the company

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have/be:

 

  • Pursuing or obtained a degree in Environmental Science or related field (Health, Safety, Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene)
  • Open to traveling to other company locations, such as the Lansing, MI, Toledo, OH, and Sterling Heights, MI, plants
  • Environmental experience is a plus (storm water permits, RCRA, TSCA, ISO 14001)
  • Teachable, Self driven, Approachable
  • Ability to communicate effectively with hourly and management employees
  • Comfortable in a manufacturing/ industrial setting
  • Excellent oral and written communication and time management skills
  • Proficient in data entry, and Microsoft programs including: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Proficient level of English
